Here is some information from Deer Hill you may want to know about the conference location before registering
Conferences are held at the 128-acre Basecamp facility of Deer Hill Expeditions in the Mancos Valley, Southwest Colorado. Since 1984, our small family company has been offering unique summer programs that incorporate wilderness adventure and community service. Over the past decade Deer Hill has welcomed many Waldorf eighth grade classes for custom-designed expeditions in the Southwest. We greatly value our connection with Waldorf education. Our Basecamp, located between the majestic Colorado Rockies and the canyons and mesas of the Colorado Plateau, offers the ideal setting for growth, creativity, education and rejuvenation. For five years it has provided the perfect backdrop for the Essential Waldorf Conferences.
Conference Lodging
Our Basecamp is a beautiful, but rural environment. While at Deer Hill, conference attendees have the option to stay in our modest, but comfortable same-sex “bunkhouses”, or enjoy the tranquility of sleeping under the stars in personal tents. Should you choose to stay in one of our rustic bunkhouses, you will share space with several colleagues, a short walk from our shower/restroom house. If you prefer a tent, and currently own a tent you enjoy, we suggest you bring it with you to the conference. If you do not have a tent, Deer Hill will provide one for you. Regardless of which lodging option you choose, comfortable bedding will be provided.
Transportation
For all conference attendees arriving by air, you will arrive and depart out of Durango La Plata airport. The major airlines serving Durango are: U.S. Air (via Phoenix), United Airlines (via Denver), and Frontier (via Denver). Deer Hill will offer two shuttles for arriving and departing participants, one mid morning, and one late afternoon.
For participants who are driving, directions and parking information will be sent to you after you have registered for the conference.
Meals
At Deer Hill we offer tasty and nutritious meals with vegetarian options. We do our best to meet the dietary needs of our guests. If for some reason there are specific items you need that Deer Hill does not provide, there is a natural food store as well as a conventional grocery store in Mancos. For beverages, we offer water, hot tea, cocoa, coffee and decaf.
The Deer Hill Environment
The Basecamp of Deer Hill Expeditions lies at 7,000 ft above sea level, in the foothills of the spectacular San Juan Mountains. Basecamp overlooks Mesa Verde National Park to the West, and Utah’s red rock canyons are a short drive away. While this location offers breathtaking panoramas and endless opportunities for connecting with nature, there are some important things to remember when planning a trip to Deer Hill. Please keep in mind our climate is arid, with low humidity and lots of sun. Temperatures can reach into the nineties during the day, and dip into the fifties in the evening. Sunscreen, moisturizer, and appropriate clothing are vital. Detailed suggestions on what to bring will be included in a Program Information Packet when you register for your conference.
Payment and Cancellation Policy:
Registration by the deadline is important. If, for example, 3 or 4 people who intend to register fail to do so by the due date, that could result in the whole course being cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. Your deposit of $100 is required at time of registration; the balance due, or total course fee, is due by the registration date. Registrations need to be received ONE MONTH prior to the conference start date.
All courses have minimum and maximum enrollment requirement limitations. If a conference/workshop does NOT meet the minimum enrollment requirements by the registration deadline, we will inform you immediately by phone or email, so you then have time to make other arrangements. We will also CONFIRM with you on that registration deadline that enrollments have been met, so that you have sufficient time to make airline reservations. Feel free to call or email to check on enrollments if you need to.
If your plans change and you need to cancel, please inform us as soon as possible so your space can be filled. There may be a cancellation charge ranging from $25 to $50 depending on whether supplies have been ordered, and whether we are notified in time to fill the space. If cancellation is made AFTER the registration deadline, refund may be only 50% of the total course charge. We hope you understand we are a young, small organization, offering more personalized educational opportunities for teachers. We must plan our budget, contract our presenters, rent facilities, and order supplies based on financial commitments from participants. Thank you for your interest, and your timely registration, which allow us to offer these conferences.
