School Consultations with Eugene Schwartz
We will soon be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first Waldorf school, and, as the Waldorf impulse continues to spread worldwide, there is ample cause for celebration.
On the other hand, with every passing year the North American Waldorf movement faces many issues that Rudolf Steiner did not include in his original “playbook”: the explosive growth of public Waldorf schools, the alarming rise of children with special pedagogical and psychological needs, the diminished quality of Waldorf teacher training, the escalating conflicts surrounding school administrative and financial issues — to name just a few.
Since I began serving as a mentor and consultant to Waldorf schools in the early 1980s, I have not hesitated to “read the signs of the times” and prepare teachers for the profound transformations that would be necessary in the late twentieth century and well into the twenty-first. Many schools can attest to the accuracy of my predictions and the efficacy of the measures they took to meet today’s challenges.

I generally visit for five-day week and I am prepared to work 10 to 12-hour days, including evening lectures to parents and the public. My days include intensive mentoring of class teachers, consultations with staff, conversations at faculty meetings, and even visits to parent evenings. Some schools ask me to stay on and give public weekend workshops.
I have pioneered the use of online media to remain in contact with, and render advice to, the teachers I have mentored. I have also held continuing Skype consultations with the faculties and school boards of schools that I have visited. There are many schools on the School Visits list that I have served in this way for ten or more years in a row. Your school may be one of them.
