Why an Intensive?
The intense summer conference schedule means that a great deal of meeting time must be squeezed into a few short weeks and a handful of conference locales. We frequently have to lament that our conference presenters could only be in one place at one time . . .
. . . until now, that is! Today’s Internet makes it possible to overcome at least some of the limitations of space and time, and it makes it possible to offer an Essential Grade Seven Intensive – online! Following four years of highly successful online Waldorf workshops through our Halftime Webinars and Online Teachers’ Conferences, we are ready to expand and present the first-ever Waldorf online teachers’ Intensive.
What Will I Get? And What Won’t I Get?
Once you have chosen the 14-day period convenient to you, you will receive links to lectures by Eugene Schwartz (click here to see the lecture topics). Most of these will be links to audio files of 60 – 75 minute lectures. Eugene has taught Grade Seven four times, and is regarded as one of the preeminent lecturers on adolescence and the Upper Grades in the Waldorf movement. For several years he has led the Essential Grade Seven conferences in Mancos, CO. Most of the lectures we are offering are recordings from the Mancos conferences, and several have been specially recorded for this Intensive.
You will receive a thorough background in the developmental changes of the seventh grader and insights into the significance of the seventh grade curriculum that you will receive nowhere else. You will also be given a strong foundation in teaching History, Physiology, Perspective Drawing, Mathematics, Geography, and Language Arts.
And what won’t you get? There will also be a lecture on Laboratory Science at the Threshold of Adolescence, but, since there will not be a video component to this Intensive, there will not be any Physics or Chemistry demonstrations. There will not be any demonstrations of drawing or painting, although the download that you will receive on The Elements of Grade Seven will be a rich storehouse of examples of student work. Music and recitation will not be covered, nor will you have a chance to do any eurythmy.
Clearly, there are pluses and minuses! You will have to decide what works best for you. We have been told by teachers who took this intensive in 2010, 2011, and 2012 that they felt very well prepared for the year to come, at a fraction of the cost of a regular teachers’ conference.
Here is how it will work:
All of the lectures will be available online during your fourteen-day participation period from December 1 to February 10. This means that participants can listen to the content whenever they wish, and as often as they wish, for ten days. (How often have you taken notes as rapidly as possible at a lecture and wished in vain that you could hear it again?)
“But I’m not good with computers!”
Don’t worry! The Intensive “interface” is completely user-friendly! The over 600 participants in our online Halftime Webinars and our Grade Four, Grade Five, and Grade Six Online Conferences all experienced very few difficulties, and most of these were resolved in a few minutes. All you need is broadband access to the Internet. We recommend Chrome, Safari, and Firefox as the most reliable Web browser for this conference.
Your Fee - and Your Savings
The fee for the Intensive week is USD $100.00. That is all that you pay. Since you are participating from your home or school, there are no travel expenses, no accommodations expenses, no dining expenses. Many of you would have to spend eight to ten times this amount to attend a Grade Seven conference in a training center. In these difficult economic times, such savings can make a significant difference. The fee is so low that you may wish to take part in this Intensive even if you are joining a bigger conference, just to deepen and intensify what you learned at one of the training centers.
We hope that you will join us!
